Welcome to NCAWPA!

Home of the DC Dragons, NCA Outrigger, and GoPink!DC

We are NCAWPA, a non-profit organization that is the home of three established DC paddling teams, the DC Dragons (15+ Years as DC's premier Dragonboat club), the National Capital Area (NCA) Outrigger Club (who has been competing and training Outrigger newbies for over 10 years), GoPink!DC (the premier DC women's Breast Cancer Survivor Dragonboat team), and the DC Youth Dragonboat team.

We stand strong at over 80 members, and have trained and introduced a few thousand paddlers to DB and OC over the course of the last decade. Our organization's purpose is to introduce the community to paddlesports, while at the same time competing in races across the East Coast, across the United States, and even the world. Beyond paddling, our organization is very involved in the community, volunteering in a variety of ways including: Youth sports days, Earth Day Cleanup, Anacostia Waterfront cleanup, while also training a few hundred paddlers to participate in the Washington, DC Dragonboat festival.

We are actively looking for those interested in trying Dragonboating and/or Outrigging, as we bring new novices into the boats weekly. Come on down!!!

Everyone above the age of 12, fitness level, and experience with an interest in learning about the ancient sport of dragon boating is welcome to join us in a fun day on the water! We will teach visitors how to paddle on a dragon boat and we will hold mini-races in the afternoon to get everyone excited about the sport. The day will be split into two sessions:

"Learn to Paddle" takes place in the morning from 10:30am to 2:00pm and is tailored for the new paddler and paddlers with little to no experience. We will guide you through paddling techniques and coach you on the better paddling form.

"Fun Paddle" takes place in the afternoon from 2:30pm to 6:30pm and welcomes recreational paddlers with some experience (including festival racing) and paddlers who have joined us in the morning "Learn to Paddle" session. During the "Fun Paddle", we will hold fun races to get everyone excited about dragon boating and it will include some slalom and backpaddling races (yes, you read it!) thrown in just for the heck of it!
